FAQs

New to stump removal? You’re not alone.
Most homeowners only deal with it once or twice, so it’s normal to have questions. Here are the answers we share most often — from how the process works to what happens after the stump is gone. If you don’t see your question here, just ask — we’re happy to help.

  • We use a process called stump grinding. A high-powered machine with carbide teeth chips the stump down below ground level. It’s faster, cleaner, and less disruptive than digging or pulling the stump out by hand — and it won’t tear up your yard.

  • Most stumps are ground 6–12 inches below ground level, which is deep enough to replant grass, lay sod, or even put in new landscaping. Need deeper grinding? We can do that too.

  • We grind the stump itself and any major surface roots within reach. In most cases, full root system removal isn’t necessary — and trying to dig them out can cause more damage to your yard. We’ll review your options with you before we start.

  • Grinding turns the stump into mulch. You can keep it for landscaping or compost, or we can haul it away for a clean finish — whatever works best for your project.

  • There’s no one-size-fits-all price. The cost depends on stump size, number of stumps, depth, access to the site, and whether you’d like mulch hauled away. We provide free estimates and fast on-site quotes, so you’ll know exactly what to expect before we start.

  • Yes. We always check for utilities and call for locates when necessary. We also work carefully around sprinkler lines, fences, and other landscaping so nothing gets damaged.

  • Not necessarily. If we’ve walked the site with you or you send us clear photos, we can complete the work while you’re away. We’ll even send before-and-after photos for your records.

  • We can handle just about anything in the Boise area: cottonwood, elm, pine, maple, locust, apple — softwoods and hardwoods alike.

  • Yes. As long as the ground isn’t frozen solid or buried under deep snow, we can grind stumps in every season. Winter work is no problem here in the Treasure Valley.
